Therapy facilitates self-discovery and growth in a space of emotional safety and acceptance.
I am here to help you navigate this path.
Adult Individual Therapy My approach to therapy is of empowerment. I help you recognize and build on your inner strengths, even if they seem hidden.
You may be feeling dissatisfied or unhappy with how your life is going. You may long for deeper connections or better boundaries. You may feel stuck in old unhelpful patterns or going through a life transition and are seeking a new path. You may be feeling worried, sad, scared, or angry. Perhaps you suffered loss or trauma.
Imagine that you feel more fulfilled, content, and that you have more control over the worries and sadness that pull you down. Working together, I can help you find relief and take charge of your path. I'm here to listen and focus on your needs and goals, and I check in frequently to make sure we're on the right track. Our work together is tailored to your needs.
In sessions, we may address or use:
the body-mind connection
introspection as an agent of change
self-compassion
how thoughts and feelings are connected
how the nervous system strives to protect the self
EMDR* to process trauma or other issues
Modalities I draw from include:
psychodynamic
cognitive behavioral
attachment
interpersonal neurobiology
mindfulness
internal family systems
I am a Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) Advanced Trainer (see Parent Training section below and here), and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)*
*EMDR is a therapeutic approach that helps heal psychological wounds caused by trauma or distressing experiences. Our brains have a natural tendency toward healing, but sometimes trauma and distress get "trapped" in our neuro-networks, impacting mood, behavior, and functioning. EMDR helps unblock those disturbing emotions and memories and facilitate healing. For more information about EMDR, visit their website.
Parent Training
Parents don't get a set of instructions on how to raise their children. Often, parents find that what worked with one child does not work with another, especially an intense child. Children need to feel connected to their parents, and they seek that connection using their energy.
Children live within the context of their family, and the parents are the primary influence in most areas of their development. Addressing the parent-child relationship through parenting work can significantly improve the child's behavioral and emotional wellbeing. I help parents strengthen their relationship with their children, which in turn eases the parents' stress and the children's emotional and behavioral struggles.
I work with parents of children of all ages. Issues may include:
ADHD
behavioral problems
anxiety
depression
transitions
While I use various modalities when working with parents, I rely most heavily on the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA). This approach is about:
connecting the core and heart of the child with those of the adult in deep and meaningful ways.
strengthening relationships and helping foster attunement and positive interactions.
teaching parents ways to effectively regulate their reactions and teach their children ways to regulate theirs.
NHA addresses nuances and reaches deeply, nurturing the heart and helping the child and parent feel successful. For more information about The Nurtured Heart Approach, visit their website.
Teletherapy
I currently conduct all sessions via video calls. Manypeople prefer teletherapy because they can meet from the comfort of their home, and because it can be as effective as in-person therapy. We can connect and build a safe and trusting relationship online. To use teletherapy you will need to be in a private space with secure wifi on a device that allows video calls.
